The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says the lingering political crisis in Rivers State is close to resolution following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.
Wike gave the assurance while speaking with journalists in Abuja after inspecting ongoing projects in the FCT.
He expressed optimism that the latest mediation by the President would bring lasting peace between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly.
According to the minister, President Tinubu, as the nation’s leader, has played a fatherly role in addressing the dispute, adding that all parties are expected to respect his counsel in the interest of peace and progress.
Wike said he is confident that both the State Assembly and the Governor will carry out the necessary steps to sustain the truce.
He stressed that the priority now is for Rivers State to move forward and thanked the President for his commitment to resolving the impasse.
The crisis had escalated in recent weeks, with the State Assembly reportedly initiating impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara, prompting the President to summon both parties to the Presidential Villa for mediation.
