Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the statement by his media aide, Nuhu Anka, Lawal’s decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders, elders, and supporters across the state.
The move is aimed at promoting political stability, unity, and stronger collaboration with the Federal Government to advance development in Zamfara.
Anka cited persistent internal crises within the PDP, including leadership disputes and structural challenges, as a key factor influencing the governor’s decision.
He stressed that these issues could hinder effective governance and service delivery.
The governor reassured residents that his administration remains committed to tackling security challenges, improving infrastructure, and accelerating socio-economic development in the state.
Lawal, 60, who is eligible for re-election in the 2027 general elections, thanked members of the PDP for their support over the years while emphasizing that the defection was driven by prevailing political realities.
