Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has flagged off the distribution of relief materials donated by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to victims of flood and windstorm disasters in the state.
The exercise took place at the State Ministry of Humanitarian and Relief Matters in Gusau, targeting affected communities in Shinkafi, Zurmi, Birnin Magaji, Talata Mafara, Anka, Gumi, Maru, Maradun, and Kaura Namoda Local Government Areas.

Governor Lawal described the intervention as a demonstration of government’s compassion and collective responsibility, and thanked NEMA for its timely assessment and support.
He emphasized transparent and orderly distribution, urging beneficiaries to use the items judiciously.

NEMA Director-General, Hajiya Zubaida Umar, represented by Alhaji Aliyu Shehu Kafindangi, said the relief effort reflects the federal government’s commitment to alleviating suffering and stabilizing living conditions, while longer-term recovery continues.
She stressed that the materials are not for sale and must be distributed fairly.
The relief items include 700 bags each of rice and maize, 700 cartons of spaghetti, 700 pieces of blankets, wax prints, 300 mattresses, as well as building materials such as cement, roofing sheets, zinc nails, and other essentials.

The Zamfara State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Salisu Tsafe, noted the severe impact of the disasters on livelihoods and properties.
Beneficiaries commended the federal and state governments for their support, highlighting the importance of collaboration in disaster management.
