The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service Mr. Jaji Abdulganiyu has called on fuel station owners and tanker operators to take urgent measures to address the reckless driving habits of their drivers.
This plea follows a devastating tanker explosion in Niger State, which claimed 60 lives and left many others critically injured.
This is contained in a statement signed by him in Abuja.
The statement expresses concerns over the increasing frequency of tanker explosions and fire-related accidents across the country.
It emphasizes the urgent need to review and enforce stricter safety protocols governing the transportation of fuel especially on major roads and at dangerous bends.
It explains that the deadly consequences of fuel leaks and static sparks can result in catastrophic explosions.
The statement advises the public to scooping fuel from fallen tankers, describing the practice as extremely dangerous and often fatal.
“Fuel vapors are highly flammable and can ignite at any moment, Your life is worth far more than a few liters of fuel.” Mr. Jaji warned.
According to the statement the Controller General urges Nigerians to avoid accident scenes involving fuel spills and to promptly contact the Federal Fire Service for professional intervention.
It commends the bravery and commitment of first responders, describing their efforts as a testament to the nation’s resilience in the face of adversity.
The statement extends condolences to the families affected by the Dikko explosion, offering prayers for strength and comfort during their time of grief.
