The Federal Government has formally accepted an invitation to join BRICS as a partner country.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja says the decision highlights Nigeria’s commitment to international collaboration, economic growth, and strategic partnerships.
BRICS is an intergovernmental organization consisting of ten countries of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates.
BRICS, comprising major emerging economies, offers Nigeria an avenue to boost trade, investment, and socio-economic cooperation.
The statement notes that Nigeria will leverage this platform to pursue shared goals in areas like energy security, infrastructure development, technology, and climate change.
It says the partnership aligns with the country’s aspirations for inclusive growth, regional integration, and active involvement in creating a fair global economic system.
The statement explains that Nigeria is set to engage constructively with BRICS members to drive innovation and promote people-to-people exchanges, ensuring the partnership aligns with national interests and priorities.
