The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, says the arrest of the leader of secessionist movement in the South East, Simon Ekpa in Finland has greatly reduced the tension and attacks in the South East region
General Musa stated this when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Defence to defend the 2025 budget.
According to him, they are working with the people to ensure stability in the South East region and other parts of the country
General Musa who explained that Operation Udoka was established to flush banditry and end the sit-at-home situation in the South-East, noted that Operation Udoka by the Defence Headquarters, is restoring peace in the region.
He pointed out that they are picking up most of the leaders of the secessionist movement in the region and making sure that the region is peaceful for daily activities.
The CDS who noted that the last holiday period was very peaceful because they were very proactive, said that the sit-at-home on Mondays is gradually diminishing.
He urged the improvement of border management to address the problem of smuggling and Child trafficking
On his part, the Chairman House Committee on Defence, Mr. Babajimi Benson, reiterated the commitment of the Committee to ensure that every Naira is judiciously spent to strengthen the operational capacity military to deliver tangible results.
He said this year’s budget defense is particularly significant as it comes against the backdrop of evolving global and domestic security threats.
