The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike has expressed deep sorrow over the death of General Jeremiah Timbut Useni (rtd).
Wike described his passing as the “fall of one of the biggest trees in the forest of Nigeria.”
A statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, notes that Useni’s loss would be deeply felt by all.
It praises Useni as a significant figure in Nigeria’s history, highlighting his contributions to the development of the FCT during his tenure as Minister from 1993 to 1998 under the late General Sani Abacha’s regime.
The statement acknowledges Useni’s extensive service to the nation, which began at the age of 14 when he joined the Army.
“He went on to serve as the Military Governor of the defunct Bendel State, Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, FCT Minister, and Senator for Plateau South”
“He was a true leader, fondly known as ‘Jerry Boy,’ who dedicated his life to serving the people,” Wike remarked.
“His unwavering commitment to his country and his people will never be forgotten.”
The statement adds that Useni’s legacy would live on in the hearts of the Tarok people of Plateau State and all Nigerians.
It extends condolences on behalf of himself and the people of the FCT, describing Useni as a great man, patriot, fine military officer, politician, peacemaker, and man of deep faith in God.
“The late General’s impact, will be deeply missed by the people of Plateau State, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the entire nation.
