The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has described as worrisome the recurring pattern of deaths caused by stampedes during distribution of palliatives to vulnerable Nigerians.
This contained in a statement signed by President of CAN, Archbishop Daniel Okoh in Abuja.
The statement commiserate with victims of the latest stampede at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama Abuja noting that this was the third tragic occurrence in December 2024 alone.
The statement calls on Nigerians to unite in love and understanding to support those who are grieving as a result of these tragedies.
“The apex Christian association further calls on Nigerians to honour the memory of those that died due to the tragedies by “committing to a future filled with hope, where every life matters, and where we can gather in safety and peace, sharing in the abundance of food and support that we can provide for one another as a nation”.
The statement also prays for the eternal rest of the deceased and God’s comfort to all who are grieving.
