The new Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mr Ikioye Orutugu has assumed duty in the area.
Mr Ikioye Orutugu will serve as the 35th Commissioner of Police in Anambra State.
Addressing newsmen at Nnewi, the New Police Commissioner said in keeping with the vision to stabilize the security architecture in the state, he was on a mission to fully reclaim the public space across the state as well as maintain law and order.
Mr Orutugu promised to address the attitude of the people on ideology, based on crime which borders on attack on unsuspecting members of the public, security personnel, abduction of persons and destruction of government infrastructures and other sundry offences.
The new Commissioner of Police who was in Nnewi for on- the- spot assessment of the unfortunate incident of the murder of three siblings that were kept in the fridge, consoled the family and relatives of the victims and also reiterated the commitment of the Anambra State Police Command over the unwholesome crime.
Mr. Orutugu said the other similar incidents recorded in the state which bordered on kidnapping of individuals and sudden disappearance of persons shall be unraveled by the circumstances surrounding such and ensure that the suspects were arrested and justice served.
He noted that the Command has been bold in confronting the challenges and indeed recorded several successes lately in curbing some of the crimes.
Mr Orutugu said he had been briefed on how the Anambra people and the state government through the launch of Operation Udo Ga Chi have risen to collectively and joined voices in condemning any act that threatens national peace.
He said to support this move, the Command under his watch would take every professional step in crime prevention to enhance crime-fighting strategies through strategic deployment of intelligent assets and robust synergy with sister security agencies, organize vigilante groups and other stakeholders.
The Commissioner of Police noted that as members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm, journalists were critical partner in the peace and security architecture of the state as their primary role in communicating effectively and transparently to the general public, major incidents in the state confers on them the position of stakeholders.
He urged the media to continue to provide valuable support devoid of sentiments, by reporting security-related incidents in the most professional and objective manner.
