Nigerians have been urged to always support the Armed Forces and contribute generously in a bid to assist families of the fallen heros and retirees.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State gave the advice at the today’s commemoration of the Nigeria Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Ilorin.
Governor AbdulRazaq, who described the armed forces as epitome of patriotism, gave the assurance that their sacrifices to the nation would not be in vain.
He commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their continued selfless service to the defense of the sovereignty of the nation despite hostilities.
On her part, the Kwara State Commissioner for Social Development, Mrs Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh enjoined the Armed Forces to continue to remain steadfast in their services to the Nation.
She assured them of the State Government positive interventions for families, officers and men of the Armed Forces.
Some of the veterans, who spoke with Radio Nigeria thanked God for being alive to celebrate yet another Armed Forces Remembrance Day and called for lump sum payment of their retirement benefits.
Mrs Tiamiyu Fatima, who lay the wreath on behalf of other widows of the fallen heroes, called for more interventions from the government at all levels to cater for their members.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Kwara State was attended by representatives of all Armed Forces, members of the Nigerian Legion, Widows of fallen heros, top Government functionaries, captains of industries and members of the public.
The event witnessed ceremonial laying of wreath in honor of fallen heros, three gunshots salute and the symbolic release of pigeons to signify peace and unity of the country.
