Nigerians have been urged to support governments in taking care of widows of fallen heroes, their children and properties due to the fact that the soldiers laid their lives for the nation.
The Lagos state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo OLU made the plea in message to the 2025 Armed forces Remembrance day held at the Remembrance Arcade in Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.

Gov Sanwo Olu who was represented by his deputy Dr. Obafemi Hazmat at the event responded to their salutes as he stands on the saluting base.
Governor Sanwo Olu said that the role the fallen heroes played in securing the sovereignty of the nation could not be quantified .
The Governor therefore, explained that the sacrifices the soldiers played in laying down their lives for the nation informed the Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The Governor stressed that the remembrance day was aimed at honouring and praying for the fallen heroes who had sacrificed their lives for the nation.
The representative of widows of the fallen heroes in Lagos state, Mrs Oluwaseyi Iliya, wife of late major Yerima Iliya said that the Windows expected more from the Lagos State government as all they had ever received from the state government as support was a pack of gifts given to ten Widow’s last year.
Mrs Iliya stressed that she expected the government to give better support to the wives of the fallen heroes going by the sacrifices they paid with their lives for the nation.
Some other widows of the fallen heroes who spoke to Radio Nigeria buttressed Mrs. Iliya Mrs. Iliya’s claim.
The event ended with the release of pigeon, balloons and signing of condolence register amidst musical tunes being rendered by the military band.
