The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC is collaborating with National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, and other stakeholders in the campaign on war against intake of illicit drugs by motorists across the 36 states and FCT.
This is even as the FRSC is also partnering with National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA, to ensure the environment of all motor parks were clean across the country.
The FRSC Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed stated this while leading Heads of some government agencies and President of Court of Appeal on a sensitisation campaign to the Jabi central Motor Park in Abuja.
Mallam Mohammed said the measures became necessary towards achieving the success of the Federal Government Renewed Hope Programs on safe and clean environment.
The FRSC boss, however, expressed concerns over high level of illegal trade activities and consumption of illicit drugs at the Motor Parks across the country.
He further maintained that FRSC would not relent in withdrawing the licence of motorists caught with intake of alcoholic drinks and illicit drugs.
Mallam Mohammed assured that FRSC would this year place emphasis on strict enforcement and prosecution of traffic offenders for effective traffic management in the country.
On his part, the NDLEA Chairman, Retired Brigadier Gen. Buba Marwa appealed to motorists especially commercial drivers to desist from taking illicit drugs which he said was hazardous to health.
Marwa who was represented by the NDLEA FCT Commander, Mr Kabir Tsakuwa said that the agency would not relent in making the country free of illicit drugs.
In her remark, the President Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem stressed that the country had Lost many lives especially able young Nigerians to road accident on account of illicit drugs consumption by commercial drivers.
Dongban-Mensem, however, urged transport union leaders across the country to join the campaign against sales and intake of alcoholic drinks at their Motor Parks.
Also, the Director General of NESREA Dr innocent Barikor emphasised the need for management of Motor Parks to always keep their environment clean and stop throwing dirty on the roads.
