The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps has deployed over two thousand eight hundred personnel to complement the efforts of other security agencies to ensure crime-free Christmas and New Year festivities in Imo state.
The State Commandant of the Corps, Mrs. Mary Mbanugo stated this in Owerri while parading suspects who specialized in snatching vehicles at gunpoint.
Mrs. Mbanugo said the special intelligent squad of the corps apprehended a member of a criminal gang that allegedly snatched a saloon car from a woman at Umuahia in Abia state at a gunpoint and later brought the vehicle to Owerri, Imo state.
One of the suspects, Kelechi Alimonye who hailed from Ehime Mbano local government area of Imo state said luck ran out of him after he chased and recovered the vehicle from two persons who exhibited criminal behavior at a bar in Mbaise with an intention to divert the vehicle for personal use.
Another suspect who claims to be an auto mechanic said he did not realize that the vehicle which was brought to him for repair was a stolen one.
