In order to effectively enhance security on the nation’s waters and to support efficient ports operations, the Nigerian Navy, has pledged continuous collaboration with the Government Agencies operating at the Seaports across the country.
The synergy was solidified when the Flag Officer Commanding, the Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Michael Oamen paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Executives of both the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA and the Nigerian Shipper’s Council in Lagos.
At the NPA, Rear Admiral Oamen, was received by the Managing Director, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho and his Management Team.
The FOC said the Navy would always be committed to resolving security issues on the Lagos waters , assuring the host, that, newer measures are being worked out, towards addressing every issue that may come up on the waters while also conveying the Chief of Naval Staff’s message to the NPA Management.
In his remarks, Managing Director of the Nigeria Port Authority, NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho acknowledged the constant contributions of the Nigerian Navy, to the recent declaration of the Nigerian waters as pirate – free, by the International Maritime Bureau, IMB, and assured the Team, that the NPA would continue to collaborate with the Nigerian Navy, to foster improved security on the waters and at the Seaports.
The FOC, Rear Admiral Oamen who also visited the
Nigerian Shipper’s Council, described his visit as his way of fostering inter – agency cooperation while acknowledging the Council’s invaluable efforts at ensuring smooth maritime operations, noting that, the synergy would help reduce crime and enhance shipping operations.
Responding, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shipper’s Council, Mr Akutah Pius underscored the importance of the collaboration between the Council and the Nigerian Navy and noted that, it would promote fair practices in the sector hence highlighting the crucial roles the collaboration would play, in the growth of the nation’s economy and for the security of the nation’s maritime domain.
