As part of efforts to tackle increasing cost of healthcare the Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency NNMDA, says it is working to establish herbal clinics in all local government of the federation.
This it says will help cushion the effect of the present economic reality, through provision of quality and affordable healthcare for the people.
The Director General of the Agency, Professor Martins Emeje stated this during a parley with newsmen, held at the NNMDA’s headquarters in Lagos.
The Director General says it is necessary for Nigerians to understand the importance of natural medicine, hence the agency’s drive to make it popular..
Professor Emeje said that the Agency is collaborating with some local governments in research and proffering natural medicine solutions.
He said “capacity building for staff members has been paramount in the last one year to ensure all-round competence and change the narrative about traditional medicine in Nigeria.”
Professor Emeje who said members of staff of the agency are well equipped noted that research on natural medicine development are now internally sourced.
The NNMDA DG said the agency was preparing a pilot plan to establish pharma-grade excipient plant, to enhance product research in the laboratories.
The Natural medicine practitioner said traditional birth attendance procedures are now being developed by the Agency to improve mother and child health care in the country .
Highlight of the event was the induction of Journalists for Natural Medicine, to ensure better publication of the breakthroughs in natural medicine.
