The Federal Fire Service says it has successfully saved properties worth ₦1.94 trillion from fire incidents across Nigeria in 2024.
The Controller General of the Service, Mr. Jaji AbdulGaniyu, revealed during the maiden media briefing of 2025 held in Abuja.
Mr. AbdulGaniyu noted that while an estimated ₦67.1 billion worth of properties were lost to fire incidents last year, the Service also saved 33,890 lives.
He emphasized the Service’s commitment to improving its operations by leveraging advanced technology to enhance emergency response times and reduce fire risks.
He said the Federal Fire Service would introduce innovative systems such as the National Fire Detection and Alarm System (NAFDAS) and a Fire Alarm mobile application known as N-Alert in 2025 aimed a ensuring faster response times and better operational efficiency in tackling fire emergencies.
The Controller General urged Nigerians to exercise caution and be vigilant during the harmattan season, a period marked by low humidity, which increases the risk of static sparks and gas explosions to prevent fire outbreaks.
Mr. AbdulGaniyu reaffirmed the Service’s determination to establish fire stations in every senatorial zone across the country.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the procurement of state-of-the-art firefighting equipment and the remodeling of the National Fire Service Academy in Sheda, Abuja.
