Anambra State Government has presented an estimated bill of over N607 billion for 2025 fiscal year.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo made the presentation to the State House of Assembly.
The proposed budget size of N606,991,849,118 for the fiscal year 2025 exceeded the 2024 budget of N410,132,225,272.
The budget christened “changing gears 2.0″ has a capital expenditure of N467.5 billion naira accounting for 77% of the total budget size while the recurrent expenditure of N139.5 billion naira accounts for 23% same ratio as the 2024 budget.
Presenting the budget estimate with a deficit of #148.3 billion naira, Governor Chukwuma Soludo said the draft budget was hinged on the premise to enable his administration focus on his transformation agenda of the state as well as his determination to change Anambra’s narrative from its current status as a “departure lounge” to a “destination of choice.”as contained in his manifesto.
The Governor, while stressing that over the past two year and eight months, despite the challenges he met on assumption of office, his administration had been able to address some of the foundational issues bothering on infrastructure, health, education among others.
“despite the macroeconomic challenges, we have remained focused on the ball—delivering on all the five fingers of the Solution Agenda: Security, Law & Order; Infrastructure and Economic Transformation; Human Capital and Social Agenda; Governance and Value System; and Environment.
“We are working hard, rejigging and strengthening our security architecture, and in some days and weeks to come, Ndi Anambra will fully experience our zero tolerance to criminality.
“Together as a people, we must bond together to defeat the criminals among us.”the governor said.
He also recounted that the 7th Assembly approved to borrow N100 billion to partly-finance the revised 2022 budget, and that his government had not borrowed one Kobo yet until 2025.
While expressing regrets that the size of the proposed budget was quite small in terms of its purchasing power and dollar equivalent, he stated his administration’s resolve to maximize value for the people of the state.
Earlier, the Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr. Somtochukwu Udeze had remarked that the Governor had taken great steps towards moving the state to greater heights through his transformation agenda.
He assured the people that the state legislature would ensure the present administration succeeded in all fronts, through enactment of laws and resolutions aimed at improving the living standards of the citizenry.
Meanwhile, the budget had already passed through first reading and subject to further scrutiny and consideration by the state House of Assembly
