Kwara State government has commenced the deworming excercise of over seven hundred thousand School Age Children, between 5 -14 years.
Speaking at the Flagg-off of the exercise in Ilorin, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Amin said the aim of the programme is to improve the quality of life of the children.
According to her, the deworming exercise reflects state government’s commitment to protect children from preventable diseases.
Dr, El-Imam explained that the mission does not stop at treatments alone, adding that it is also committed to prevention through promoting clean water and improving sanitation.
In his address, the Chairman Kwara state House of Assembly Committee on Health and Environment, Rasak Owolabi, enjoined parents, guardians and students to ensure they take advantage of the free health initiative to deworm.
He advised student to stay away from bathing or drinking contaminated stream water.
Owolabi commended the State Ministry of Health, for being proactive in the deworming excercise, to avoid outbreak of epidemics.
