Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of Prince Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, in Ibadan.
The statement explains that the Owoade’s selection followed extensive consultations and traditional divinations by the Oyomesi, the council of kingmakers in Oyo.
“Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade has been recommended by the Oyomesi after thorough consultations and divinations, and his appointment has been approved by Governor Seyi Makinde as the new Alaafin of Oyo,” Ademola states.
According to the statement the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ademola Ojo, notes that the appointment resolves the disputes that arose following the passing of the previous Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who died on April 22, 2022.
“This decision brings an end to the socio-legal controversies surrounding the succession process since the transition of the late Oba Adeyemi”
“We urge all residents of Oyo State to support the new Alaafin and celebrate this significant moment,” Ojo states.
The statement expresses hope that the new monarch’s reign will bring peace, unity, and progress to the Oyo Kingdom while preserving its rich legacy.
“We are optimistic that his reign will foster harmony, prosperity, and development for the people of Oyo,” he adds.
The statement urges residents of Oyo to rally behind the new Alaafin as he ascends the throne to lead the historic kingdom into a new era.
