The Federal Government has directed all examination bodies to adopt certificate templates with advanced security features, such as photographs, Birth Certificate and National Identification Numbers (NIN), by June 2025.
Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa stated this in Abuja at the inauguration of the Committee on Improvement of Quality Examinations in Nigeria.
Dr. Alausa who expressed concerns over the growing prevalence of examination malpractice, said there was the need to leverage technology, to eliminate the menace and restore public trust.
“This is not a fight against students but a collective effort to secure the future of education in Nigeria. With integrity and hard work, we can build a system that prepares our youth to contribute meaningfully to national and global development,” he stated.
The Minister also said the government was targeting total transitioning of all examinations to computer-based testing (CBT) by 2027.
He therefore urged the Committee members to carry out the task diligently.
Dr. Alausa outlined the mandate of the Committee to include eliminating examination leakages and fraud, addressing identity theft and result falsification, developing criteria for effective examination supervision, and designing mechanisms to curb local swapping of candidates during examinations.
Chairman of the Committee and Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, who acknowledged the global rise in examination malpractice and its negative impact on Nigeria’s educational standards, pledged the commitment of members to deliver concrete and actionable outcomes.
Members of the Committee were drawn JAMB, WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, ANCOPSS, and the Nigeria Union of Teachers.
