The Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria (FFDGN) has felicitated its National Chairman, Dr Chris Akomas, on his 66th birthday.
The Director-General of the forum, Dr Kenneth Ibe-Kalu, in a birthday message in Abuja, described Akomas as a committed public servant whose experience had strengthened the leadership of the forum.
Ibe-Kalu said Akomas had used his experience in public administration to promote discussions on governance and national development.
According to him, the forum’s national conferences under Akomas’ leadership have provided platforms for former deputy governors and other stakeholders to exchange ideas on issues affecting the country.
He said Akomas had also continued to advocate policies aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians and addressing basic needs.
Ibe-Kalu described Akomas as a bold and courageous leader who pursued issues he believed in with dedication and concern for humanity.
He called on Nigerians at home and abroad to join the forum in celebrating the former Abia deputy governor.
Akomas served as Deputy Governor of Abia and later represented the state as Federal Commissioner on the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
He also chaired the commission’s Indices and Disbursement Committee and served as Abia Commissioner for Lands and Survey.
The 66-year-old also held administrative positions at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI).
Akomas holds a PhD in Applied Psychology from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, and a master’s degree in Personnel Psychology from the University of Ibadan.
He is currently the National Chairman of the FFDGN and National Secretary of the South-East Stakeholders Forum.
The FFDGN is a non-partisan body comprising former deputy governors from the 36 states.
The forum provides a platform for members to share governance experiences, promote national development and offer policy recommendations on democratic governance and socio-economic development.
