The Independent National Electoral Commission has officially fixed Saturday, February 20, 2027, for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, while Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will hold on Saturday, March 6, 2027.
Announcing the schedule at a news briefing in Abuja, the Commission’s Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, said the release of the timetable complies with the provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act and constitutional requirements.
He explained that the tenure of the President, Vice President, most Governors and their Deputies will expire on May 28, 2027, while the National and State Assemblies will be dissolved on June 8, 2027.
According to him, the Constitution requires elections to be conducted not earlier than 150 days and not later than 30 days before the expiration of current office holders’ tenure.
The Chairman directed Resident Electoral Commissioners in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to publish the notice of election in their respective constituencies.
INEC also confirmed that the full timetable and schedule of activities have been uploaded on its official website and shared with registered political parties.
