The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, says it will soon inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) after consultations with its presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
This is contained in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq., in Abuja.
According to the statement, Presidential Candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have held meetings with the party’s national leadership towards finalising the campaign structure.
It says the candidates have been given the opportunity to nominate key officials of the PCC in consultation with the party leadership.
It lists the positions to be nominated by the candidates to include Director-General, Deputy Director-General North, spokesperson, deputy spokesperson, Head of New Media, Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director.
The statement stresses that the Finance Director and deputy will work with the National Treasurer to manage campaign funds in line with transparency, accountability and requirements of the Electoral Act.
It explains that a complete organogram of the campaign structure had been prepared since August and submitted to the presidential and vice-presidential candidates for their inputs.
The statement adds that a proposed campaign timetable had also been prepared, while arrangements for campaign funding and fundraising were being concluded.
It stresses that the inauguration of the PCC, earlier scheduled for the first week of September, was postponed due to the travel schedule of the presidential candidate.
The NDC also appeals to its candidates and supporters at all levels to avoid internal disputes and focus on the 2027 general elections.
According to the statement, the party urges its candidates to work with the party structure, stressing that they were contesting the elections under the NDC platform and not as independent candidates.
Meanwhile, the NDC has directed all state and Local Government Area chairmen to immediately meet with candidates and stakeholders to compile lists of party agents for the forthcoming elections.
It says two sets of agents should be identified for National Assembly elections and governorship/state assembly elections, with the final list to be submitted within two weeks.
The statement adds that the agents will be scrutinised and ratified by the party leadership, including the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, before training begins.
According to the statement, the committee overseeing the selection of party agents is chaired by Deputy National Chairman South, Comrade Babatunde Alli, with Vin Martin Ilo as Secretary and Dr Yunusa Tanko, Nafiu Dankura and the six zonal National Vice Chairmen as members.
