The Obidient Movement has called on President Bola Tinubu to explain his decision not to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The statement questions the President’s continued absence from the global gathering, despite the Presidency’s explanation that he is currently on annual leave and focused on domestic priorities.
It says Nigerians deserved clarification on why the President could undertake an extended trip to Europe, including engagements in France, but will not personally represent Nigeria at the United Nations General Assembly.
It states that UNGA provides Nigeria an important platform to present its interests, engage world leaders and participate in discussions on issues affecting the country, Africa and the wider international community.
The statement also questions the change from earlier indications that President Tinubu will attend the gathering, asking what led to the decision to stay away.
It further asks the Presidency to explain the domestic priorities that required the President’s continued absence from the international event.
The statement says the issue was particularly important given what it described as a growing crisis of public trust in the country.
The statement also raises questions about controversies surrounding President Tinubu’s past in the United States, referring to a 1993 federal court forfeiture involving an account associated with him.
It adds that Nigerians deserved transparency from those occupying the country’s highest offices, particularly as the nation prepares for another general election.
The statement urges President Tinubu to clarify his travel plans, official engagements and reasons for not attending the UN General Assembly in person.
According to the statement, the Obidient Movement stresses that Nigerians deserved answers, adding that transparency and accountability should remain central to public leadership.
