The FCT Police Command has arrested an official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Onoja Samuel, for allegedly possessing a pistol and 17 live bullets at Kubwa Market, Bwari Area Council, Abuja.

CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, FCT Commissioner of Police, disclosed this to journalists at the command on Wednesday.

He said the Kubwa Police Division received a distress call reporting that a man armed with a pistol was firing sporadically into the air at a market in Kubwa.

According to him, police operatives attached to the division were promptly deployed to the scene and successfully apprehended the suspect.

Sanusi said preliminary investigations identified the suspect as a Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) with the NSCDC.

He said further findings indicated that the suspect had gone to the market armed with a pistol following reports that some traders had assaulted his wife.

“During the ensuing argument with the traders, Onoja Samuel, who is a DSC with the NSCDC, fired several shots into the air,” the CP said.

He said a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition were recovered from the suspect during his arrest.

The commissioner said the suspect is in police custody and would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

He urged personnel of sister security agencies to exercise restraint and notify the police divisions responsible for the areas where they intend to conduct authorised operations within the FCT to ensure proper coordination and prevent clashes.
