The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered and sealed a suspected illegal factory allegedly used for the production and packaging of adulterated alcoholic drinks in Badagry, arresting a 48-year-old man in connection with the crime.
The suspect, identified as Anaebo Emeka Hilary, was arrested at Yafin, Badagry, where the suspected factory was located.
The arrest comes less than one week after operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) arrested two women over the alleged production of adulterated beverage in the Badagry area of the state.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, who confirmed the arrest on Thursday, said it followed intelligence provided by members of the public.
Adebisi revealed that Police operatives from the Command reportedly recovered quantities of suspected adulterated alcoholic drinks, empty bottles, assorted wine labels and various production utensils believed to have been used in the production and packaging of the drinks.
“The premises were subsequently sealed, while the suspect was taken into police custody for further investigation,” she said.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the operatives for what he described as their vigilance and prompt response to credible information.
Fatai reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations against criminal activities across the state.
He also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to the police to assist efforts to detect and disrupt criminal activities.
The recovered items have been deposited at the police station as investigations continue.
