Three vigilantes were reportedly killed during curfew hours at the Kyikyau-Gyambwas boundary in Mangu Halle District of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State on Tuesday.
The victims were reportedly attacked at about 7:49pm while the community was observing the dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed by the state government.
The incident occurred the same day gunmen killed four people, including a police officer, in Barkin Ladi LGA.
EDGE ONLINE reports that the incidents occurred a day after the state government imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Mangu, Bokkos and Barkin Ladi local government areas to restore law and order following reports of attacks and killings.
Dozens of people, including women, have reportedly been killed in the affected local government areas in recent days.
Confirming the Tuesday night attack, the Mwaghavul Youth Movement, in a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Tubwot Joel Sunday, said the victims were keeping watch over the community.
The victims were identified as Samson Dachet, 45; Gambo Fwangyil, 50; and Zughumnan Bamaiyi, 35.
The group questioned the effectiveness of the curfew, saying armed attackers could still move and attack communities during the restricted hours.
Also, the National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association, Bulus Dabit, said the curfew had failed to protect rural communities, alleging that attackers were taking advantage of the restriction to target communities, particularly those located around boundaries.
2 miners killed
In another incident, two miners were killed at Gangare community in Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 5:20pm on Wednesday, causing grief among residents and raising fresh concerns over the safety of miners and rural communities in the state.
The spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, said the victims were carrying out mining activities when gunmen attacked them.
A member of the community, Mrs Martha Dalyop, also confirmed the incident, saying the victims were at the mining site when they were killed.
She urged security operatives to investigate the killings and other recent incidents of violence in the state and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
When contacted, the spokesperson of Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Polycarp Oteh, said he had noted the inquiry.
The spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Alabo Alfred, did not respond to the inquiry from our correspondent.
