The Labour Party says social democracy remains key to addressing Nigeria’s economic and social challenges, calling for governance that prioritises citizens’ welfare, social justice and equal opportunities.
The party made the position known while congratulating Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his reported re-election, noting that both parties share similar political beliefs.
In a statement signed by the Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, said the party’s political philosophy was centred on improving the lives of ordinary citizens.
He said Brazil’s political experience offered lessons for Nigeria as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The party cited Abia State Governor Alex Otti’s administration as an example of its commitment to social democracy and people-centred governance.
It said the administration had demonstrated the party’s capacity to address the needs of the people through its approach to governance.
The Labour Party also called for greater attention to economic inclusion, social justice and equitable development across the country.
It urged Nigerians to consider the policies, records and programmes of political parties when making choices during the next general elections.
The party maintained that good governance should focus on improving living conditions and creating opportunities for all citizens.
It added that the ballot remained an important tool through which citizens could determine the direction of governance.
