The Africans for Africa, AFA, Initiative has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tanzania-based KNY Chemicals to promote mineral processing and sustainable mining across Africa.
The agreement was signed after the 5th African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS 2026)
It is aimed at improving the management of mining waste, known as tailings, while increasing value addition in the mining sector.
Under the partnership, KNY Chemicals will provide its expertise in mining chemicals and mineral processing, while AFA will drive investment in critical mineral projects, beginning with tailings projects in East Africa.
Co-founder of the AFA Initiative, Suleiman Zakari, said the partnership reflects Africa’s commitment to building stronger regional partnerships and ensuring more value is retained from the continent’s mineral resources.
He said the collaboration would support efficient mineral processing, reduce environmental impacts, and promote industrial development across Africa.

On his part, the Finance and Strategy Director of KNY Chemicals, Simon Karunditu, said the partnership would combine the company’s technical expertise with AFA’s investment platform to encourage innovation and improve sustainable mining practices.
The AFA Initiative promotes African-led investment in critical minerals through its 51 per cent Total African Benefit (TAB) model, while KNY Chemicals is a leading supplier of mining chemicals and processing solutions in East Africa.
