The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to recognise and use the modified digital two-finger logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, as the party’s official logo.
This is contained in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Osa Director, in Abuja.
The statement says the judgment was delivered by Justice J.O. Abdulmalik in a suit filed by the NDC, seeking to compel INEC to approve and use its modified logo as contained in the party’s Constitution.
It states that the court ordered INEC, its servants, agents and officers to forthwith approve the modified logo, including its symbol and colours, for use by the NDC for all purposes as a political party.
According to him, the order covers all elections conducted by INEC in Nigeria.
It explains that the approved logo is a digitally designed two-finger victory sign with a blue background and the inscription “NDC” written in red.
The statement adds that the court also granted a perpetual injunction restraining INEC from stopping or interfering with the NDC’s use of the digitally designed two-finger victory sign.
It recalls that the NDC’s First National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting held on March 25, 2026, approved the modified logo, which was subsequently forwarded to INEC.
According to Mr. Director INEC initially uploaded the new logo but later removed it and reinstated the old association logo under which the NDC was originally registered.
The statement stresses that the party allowed INEC sufficient time to resolve the matter administratively, but was compelled to seek legal redress when the issue remained unresolved.
It expresses appreciation to the Judiciary for its intervention, saying the judgment had provided clarity on the party’s official identity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement directs all NDC candidates and members to adopt and use only the approved two-finger logo on campaign materials and other publicity items, including banners and posters.
It acknowledges that some candidates and members might have already produced materials bearing the old logo, and expressed regret over the inconvenience caused.
The statement assures NDC supporters and candidates that there was nothing to worry about, adding that the party would intensify public sensitisation on its official logo.
According to the statement, Mr. Director urges members to remain united and focused, stressing that the party would continue to work towards its political objectives ahead of the 2027 elections.
