The Labour Party, LP, says it is ready to welcome back its immediate past National Chairman, Julius Abure, and other interested members as part of efforts to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, made this known after observing the inaugural meeting of the party’s newly inaugurated National Working Committee, NWC, in Abuja.
According to him, the party has adopted an open-door policy aimed at fostering unity and inclusiveness.
“Our doors are open. We are ready to welcome back everyone, including the immediate past chairman and all those who wish to be part of the party,” he said.
Governor Otti noted that reconciliation efforts are ongoing, stressing that the party is focused on bringing back former members and strengthening its base.
“There are no divisions. Everybody is a winner. What we are doing is to bring people together and move the party forward,” he added.
He said the recent convention and inauguration of the NWC demonstrate that the party is stabilizing and repositioning for future elections.
“As an observer, I can confirm that the meeting went very well, and the leadership has the capacity to guide the party through this next phase,” he stated.
Governor Otti congratulated the National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, expressing confidence in her ability to lead the party over the next four years.
“We have absolute confidence in her capacity and ability to lead, just like she did in the last two years,” he said.
He also commended members of the NWC, expressing optimism that they would demonstrate competence in managing party affairs, especially during the upcoming primaries.
On reconciliation, the governor revealed that several members of the Abure-led group participated in the convention and were reintegrated into the party structure.
“Over 25 state chairmen attended the convention, and some have been returned as members of the newly elected National Working Committee,” he noted.
He reiterated that the party’s stance is “no victor, no vanquished,” emphasizing unity and collective progress.
On the 2027 elections, Governor Otti reaffirmed that the party is fully prepared to contest and provide a credible platform for aspirants.
He also dismissed the Ibadan opposition summit, stating that the LP was not part of the meeting and is not bound by any agreement reached there.
