Businessman, entrepreneur and legal practitioner, Sir Godfrey Ohuabunwa, has urged Nigerians not to give up on their dreams, saying that with God, discipline and perseverance, no aspiration is beyond reach.
This is contained in a statement signed by him ahead of his Call to the Nigerian Bar in Abuja.
According to the statement, Ohuabunwa says his personal journey to becoming a lawyer is proof that delays should never be mistaken for denial.
The statement explains that after more than four decades of pursuing a childhood ambition to study Law, God finally brought the dream to fruition, describing the moment as one of the greatest testimonies of his life.
According to him, “There is no dream that God cannot bring to pass. No matter how long it takes, if you remain faithful, disciplined and committed, God will accomplish His purpose for your life.”
It recalls that after completing secondary school in the mid-1980s, he repeatedly sought admission to study Law but was unsuccessful despite obtaining scores that ordinarily qualified him for the programme.
“Rather than abandon my ambition, i enrolled in different qualifying programmes, including IJMB and remedial studies, before eventually gaining admission to study English Language and Literature at the University of Maiduguri after Law remained out of reach” he stresses.
“I could have concluded that it was not meant to be, but I refused to bury the dream. I believed that God’s plan was greater than my disappointment, and I continued to prepare myself for the day the opportunity would come,” he states.
The statement explains that although he built a successful career as an entrepreneur and pursued other academic and professional accomplishments over the years, the desire to become a lawyer never left him.
According to him, the opportunity eventually came during the COVID-19 pandemic when he enrolled to study Law, excelled academically and later proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, where he completed the professional training required to qualify as a legal practitioner.
It attributes the fulfillment of his lifelong ambition not only to determination but, above all, to God’s grace, saying his decision to dedicate his life to Christ in 1995 transformed his outlook and strengthened his resolve to persevere through life’s challenges.
“My life is a testimony that with God, nothing is impossible. There were seasons of disappointment and waiting, but every delay was preparing me for God’s appointed time,” he said.
The statement encourages young Nigerians and everyone facing repeated setbacks not to become discouraged by temporary failures or closed doors, stressing that present circumstances do not determine a person’s future.
“Do not allow rejection to define you. Do not allow delay to destroy your faith. Keep believing, keep working, keep praying and keep preparing. When God’s time comes, no force on earth can stop what He has ordained for you,” he adds.
According to the statement, Ohuabunwa expresses gratitude to God, his family, mentors and everyone who stood by him throughout the journey, saying his Call to the Nigerian Bar is not merely a personal achievement but a testimony intended to inspire others to trust God, remain steadfast and never stop pursuing the dreams He has placed in their hearts.
