The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees (BoT) has accepted the judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered on April 30, 2026, affirming the nullification of the party’s November 2025 national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
This is contained in a statement signed by the BoT Chairman, Mao Ohuabunwa, in Abuja.
The statement describes the ruling as a confirmation of earlier decisions by the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, which invalidated the convention and all structures arising from it.
According to the statement, the BoT, which describes itself as the conscience and moral compass of the party, says it fully respects and accepts the apex court’s decision, noting that the legal position is now “clear and unambiguous.”
According to the statement, the nullification of the Ibadan convention means that the current leadership under National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, remains the legitimate authority overseeing the party’s affairs.
It further assures members that the party remains functional and will continue to operate in line with its 2017 amended constitution, while taking necessary steps to strengthen unity and stability ahead of future elections.
The statement adds that as part of efforts to address internal grievances, the BoT directed the National Working Committee (NWC) to immediately set up a National Reconciliation Committee to engage aggrieved members across the country.
It also urges members to remain united, disciplined, and committed to its ideals, reaffirming its resolve to provide credible leadership to Nigeria.
