The United Kingdom’s Department for Business and Trade has supported a high-level Cybersecurity Stakeholder Roundtable held in Abuja and Lagos to address Nigeria’s growing cybersecurity challenges.
The event brought together key players from government and the private sector, including top cybersecurity and tech experts, to discuss practical solutions to the country’s digital security issues.
The roundtable emphasized the importance of collaboration and information sharing to combat cybersecurity threats.
Discussions at the fora focused on fostering partnerships, creating platforms for continuous knowledge exchange, and identifying cross-cutting needs to shape future cybersecurity policies.
Participants also explored ways to enhance visibility and access to state-of-the-art cybersecurity solutions.
The Country Director for DBT in Nigeria, Mr Mark Smithson highlighted the UK’s global leadership in cybersecurity innovation and its readiness to partner with Nigeria in tackling emerging threats.
Other notable speakers, including NITDA Director General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Nigerian Exchange Limited CEO Jude Chiemeka stressed that robust cybersecurity frameworks are critical to Nigeria’s digital growth, pointing to the alarming ₦14.65 billion loss to electronic fraud in 2021.
