The UK’s Chief Scientific Adviser, Professor Charlotte Watts is expecting to tour Nigeria in the coming days to showcase the power of science and innovation.
A statement by the British High Commission in Abuja indicates that her visit is a testament to the UK’s commitment to fostering partnerships in innovation, research, and development to address shared global challenges and drive sustainable prosperity.
The statement says “Professor Watts’ will engage with stakeholders in Lagos and Abuja on the transformative impacts of UK-supported projects on Nigeria’s economic growth and social progress.
According to the statement, while In Lagos, Professor Watts will explore groundbreaking initiatives under the UK-Africa Technology and Innovation Partnerships (ATIP) programme and In Abuja, Professor Watts will hold a strategic discussions with Nigeria’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Chief Uche Nnaji on plans to establish a domestically funded Science Granting Council.
According to the statement this visit underlines the vital role of UK-Nigeria collaboration in harnessing innovation and research as engines of economic growth and societal advancement.
