Former member of the House of Representatives, Farah Dagogo, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Rivers State.
Dagogo secured victory in the party’s direct primaries conducted across the 319 wards in the 23 local government areas of the state, polling 64,700 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sokonte Davies, who garnered 9,050 votes.
The result was announced by the Chairman of the ADC Rivers State Governorship Primary Electoral Committee, Agu Bryan, in the presence of committee members and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Bryan stated that the exercise was conducted in line with the party’s guidelines and electoral procedures, adding that Dagogo fulfilled all constitutional and party requirements to emerge as the party’s flagbearer.
Reacting to his victory, Dagogo described his emergence as a collective triumph for members of the ADC and residents of Rivers State who desire a new direction for the state.
He expressed appreciation to the party leadership and delegates for the confidence reposed in him, stressing that the contest was devoid of bitterness and should be seen as a shared mission to reposition Rivers State for sustainable development.
According to him, the task ahead requires unity, inclusiveness, and collective responsibility, noting that the goal is to build a secure, functional, and economically viable state that works for all residents.
Dagogo also pledged to build on the legacies of past administrations in the state, including those of former Military Governor Alfred Diete-Spiff, former governors Ada George, Peter Odili, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Nyesom Wike, and incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The ADC candidate assured that his campaign would focus on issues and practical solutions rather than personal attacks or divisive politics.
He said priority attention would be given to security, quality education, youth empowerment, job creation, healthcare delivery, and economic growth aimed at restoring the pride and dignity of Rivers State.
