Candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, whose names were published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have commended the party’s National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, for his role in resolving disputes that followed the party’s primaries.
The candidates said Dickson’s intervention helped restore confidence within the party after concerns over delays in the publication of candidates’ names, particularly for those contesting National Assembly seats.
Several candidates described the former Bayelsa State Governor as a stabilising force whose leadership and reconciliation efforts prevented internal disagreements from escalating.
The NDC candidate for Abia Central Senatorial District, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, praised Dickson for steering the party through the challenges of the primaries and reconciliation process.
She urged aspirants who did not secure tickets to remain committed to the party, saying they should work for the NDC’s success in the 2027 general elections.
Some candidates also dismissed allegations that party tickets were sold to the highest bidders, insisting the NDC primaries were transparent and among the fairest conducted by major political parties.
A Canada-based aspirant who lost the party’s House of Representatives ticket said Dickson devoted months to reconciling aggrieved aspirants and stakeholders without interfering in the conduct of the primaries.
Another aspirant from Edo State also denied claims that aspirants paid money to obtain party tickets, saying the National Leader never demanded or discussed financial inducements.
The aspirants called on members to unite behind the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, his running mate, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and all NDC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, an unsuccessful House of Representatives aspirant for Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency in Imo State, Mazi Nnamdi Dickson Iroegbu, accepted the outcome of the primaries and pledged his continued support for the party.
He urged his supporters and other party members to remain united and work towards the NDC’s success in the 2027 elections.
