Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has promised to deepen ongoing reforms and consolidate his administration’s achievements as he formally flags off his re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Otti made the declaration at the Umuahia Township Stadium, where thousands of Labour Party supporters from the 17 Local Government Areas of the state gathered for the campaign flag-off.
The Governor said Abia would never return to what he described as an era of poor leadership, political intimidation and irresponsibility, insisting that the state had made significant progress since his assumption of office in 2023.
He said his administration was determined to establish strong institutions that would sustain transparency, accountability and good governance beyond his tenure.
Recalling the challenges faced by residents under previous administrations, Otti assured that no property owner would suffer demolition because of political differences under his government.
Highlighting his administration’s achievements, the Governor disclosed that about 400 road projects, covering more than 1,000 kilometres, had been completed across the state.
He listed Port Harcourt Road, Oboha Road, Ohanku Road and Arochukwu Road among the major roads reconstructed, describing them as projects previously considered difficult to execute.
On education, Otti said his government had employed more than 9,000 teachers and established smart schools across several communities, while also investing in primary healthcare delivery.
He added that billions of naira had been committed to revitalising Abia State University, Uturu, and Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba.
The Governor also highlighted efforts to revive industries in Aba, support small and medium-scale enterprises and boost agricultural production to improve food security.
He said his administration’s next phase of development would focus on consolidating existing achievements under its proposed manifesto, titled The New Abia: From Rescue to Consolidation.
Otti urged residents to support Labour Party candidates in the forthcoming elections, saying another four years would enable his government to strengthen reforms and eliminate what he described as the remaining challenges of poor governance.

In a demonstration of political tolerance, the Governor wished candidates of other political parties well and directed state officials to make public facilities available for campaign activities, subject to payment of prescribed fees and compliance with relevant regulations.
He also urged his supporters to conduct issue-based campaigns centred on policies and performance, warning against political violence and electoral misconduct.
Otti maintained that his administration would continue to work towards building a stronger Abia through institutional reforms, infrastructure development and improved opportunities for residents.
