The Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the 2027 general election, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has described Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, as a living legend whose life and contributions continue to inspire generations across Nigeria, Africa and the world.
In a goodwill message to mark Soyinka’s 92nd birthday, Adebayo says the renowned playwright, poet and activist remains a symbol of courage, integrity, intellectual excellence and unwavering commitment to justice and human dignity.
The statement notes that as Africa’s first Nobel Laureate in Literature, Professor Soyinka has distinguished himself through decades of principled advocacy, literary accomplishments and steadfast defence of truth, freedom and democratic ideals.
According to Adebayo, Soyinka’s enduring voice and moral authority have continued to provide guidance and inspiration at critical moments in Nigeria’s history.
It describes the elder statesman as a conscience of the nation whose life demonstrates that nation-building requires sacrifice, courage and ethical leadership.
The statement says Soyinka’s legacy transcends national boundaries and generations, adding that his contributions to literature, democracy and social justice have earned him global admiration and respect.
According to the statement, Adebayo prays for continued good health, strength and peace for the nonagenarian, expressing hope that Nigeria, Africa and humanity would continue to benefit from his vast knowledge and wisdom.
“Professor Wole Soyinka’s remarkable life remains a testament to the enduring power of ideas and the responsibility of citizens to defend justice, truth and human dignity,” Adebayo states.
