Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has pledged to tackle poverty, unemployment, insecurity and poor governance if elected President in the 2027 general election.
Adebayo made the promise while accepting his party’s nomination in Bauchi, describing his emergence as a mandate to offer Nigerians a credible alternative to the current political order.
He said millions of Nigerians were struggling with rising living costs, food insecurity and limited economic opportunities, stressing that his administration would focus on restoring economic stability and improving citizens’ welfare.
According to him, years of poor leadership and policy failures have deepened the nation’s socio-economic challenges, making urgent reforms necessary.
The SDP flag bearer promised a people-centred government that would prioritize job creation, poverty reduction and strategic investments in infrastructure, including roads, schools, healthcare facilities and electricity.
Adebayo also pledged to revive moribund industries, refineries, manufacturing firms and agro-processing facilities to stimulate economic growth and create employment opportunities.
On security, he said Nigerians deserve a government capable of protecting lives and property, promising to strengthen the armed forces and security agencies to tackle terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes.
The presidential candidate maintained that meaningful development could only be achieved through effective and accountable governance at the federal, state and local government levels.
He further promised to run an issue-based campaign focused on policies and solutions rather than ethnic, religious or sectional sentiments.
Adebayo urged Nigerians to assess candidates based on competence, integrity and commitment to public service rather than personal relationships or financial inducements.
He warned against what he described as growing threats to democratic governance, stressing that democracy can only thrive where political parties and opposition voices operate freely.
The SDP candidate also expressed concern over alleged pressure on democratic institutions, emphasizing the need to safeguard the nation’s electoral and governance systems.
Adebayo commended Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, for providing an enabling environment for the party’s convention despite what he described as political pressure.
He accused the administration of worsening economic hardship through increased taxation and failing to translate gains from subsidy removal into tangible benefits for citizens.
According to him, politics directly affects the quality of education, healthcare, security, infrastructure and economic opportunities available to Nigerians, making active citizen participation essential.
Adebayo said his ambition was driven by a desire to serve the country and contribute to national development, expressing confidence that the 2027 elections present an opportunity to restore hope, strengthen democracy and build a more prosperous Nigeria.
