Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Henry Dele Alake, has endorsed the 2026 Solid Minerals Excellence Awards (SOMEA), describing the initiative as a boost to efforts aimed at promoting responsible mining and attracting investment into the sector.
In an official communication, the minister said the awards align with government priorities to improve transparency, strengthen investor confidence and enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global mining industry.
On his part, Project Coordinator of the awards, Femi Da-silva, said the programme would give deserved recognition to companies and individuals making significant contributions to the development of the sector.
He noted that the event would also highlight the growing importance of solid minerals such as lithium, gold, limestone and rare earth minerals in Nigeria’s economic diversification drive.
Award categories include Leading Mining Company of the Year, Excellence in Sustainable and Safe Operations, and Outstanding Contribution to Sector Growth.
The event, themed “Unlocking the Future,” is expected to attract policymakers, investors, diplomats and major industry stakeholders.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to hold May 14, 2026 in Abuja.
