The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr. Somtochukwu Udeze, has called for collective efforts by governments, institutions and communities to empower women and protect their rights.
In a message to mark the 2026 International Women’s Day, Udeze commended Nigerian women for their contributions to national development, noting their growing presence in key sectors, particularly healthcare and the workforce.
He stressed that investing in women and girls is essential for building a more peaceful, prosperous and inclusive society.
The Speaker also urged relevant authorities to review and abolish harmful cultural practices and laws that discriminate against women, especially widows.
Udeze commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, for initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and empowerment of women and girls in Anambra State.
He further encouraged well-meaning individuals to support vulnerable women in their communities to improve their living conditions.
