The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied any role in the reported attack on the secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin City, Edo State, and the residence of former Governor Odigie-Oyegun.
Suspected political thugs reportedly stormed the ADC office, damaging property and injuring party members, before moving to Oyegun’s residence where sporadic gunfire and vehicle destruction occurred.
Following the incident, the APC described ADC’s immediate attribution of blame as “premature and baseless.”
In a statement, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, called for a thorough police investigation, suggesting that internal disputes within the ADC and its leadership struggles should also be examined.
The party emphasized that violence in the political space is unacceptable and insisted that the ADC should not preempt law enforcement processes.
Morka stressed that the APC remains focused on governance and recent electoral successes in the Federal Capital Territory, Rivers, and Kano states, and reiterated that the party had no connection to the Edo attacks.
The APC urged law enforcement agencies to swiftly identify the perpetrators, hold them accountable, and ensure that political violence does not undermine Nigeria’s democratic process.
