The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, has praised the resilience and dedication of Nigerian Army officers and soldiers during the 2025 West African Socio Activities (WASA) held at Arakan Barracks, Apapa, Lagos.
Represented by Commander Corps of Signals, Major General Mohammed Abdullahi, the COAS highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen the Army’s operational capabilities.
Speaking at the annual event, which marks the end of a training and operational year, Lt. Gen. Shuaibu noted that the Army would soon receive additional helicopters, unmanned aerial systems, and other critical combat enablers to enhance effectiveness in addressing security challenges nationwide.
He also commended the Army Finance Corps for its role in maintaining transparent and efficient financial management, ensuring the timely allocation of resources in support of operations and training despite fiscal constraints.
Major General Taofik Sidick, Chief of Accounts and Budget, acknowledged the Corps’ prompt execution in disbursing salaries and allowances, as well as meeting all necessary training requirements for the year.
WASA 2025 featured awards for outstanding soldiers, cultural exhibitions, traditional cuisine, performances, comedy, and a tug-of-war competition, promoting unity, morale, and cultural integration among personnel.
The event underscores the Army’s commitment to operational readiness, financial accountability, and fostering cohesion within its ranks.
