Stakeholders in Nigeria’s aviation sector have called for sustained efforts to promote gender inclusion and capacity development as the nation marks International Women’s Day 2026.
The call was made at an event organised in Lagos by the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) Women Commission under the theme “Give to Gain,” which highlighted the growing contributions of women to aviation.
Mr. Ahmed Farouk, Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), represented by Mrs. Hauwa Musa, noted that aviation, once considered male-dominated, is evolving as more women take on key roles as pilots, engineers, air traffic controllers, and managers.
Captain Bunmi Gindeh, President of NAAPE, emphasized that supporting, mentoring, and creating opportunities for women strengthens the workforce and ensures the industry benefits from talent and inclusivity.
The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), represented by Mrs. Ujueze William-Jumbo, reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with NAAPE to advance professional development and growth in the sector.
Event convener Mrs. Kyola Dyaji and other speakers stressed that achieving gender equality requires collective action, inspiring young women to pursue careers in aviation while reinforcing the industry’s responsibility to create an inclusive environment for all talent.
