The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has deployed special forces to Plateau State as part of ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and strengthen security across the region.
The announcement was made during a courtesy visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Government House, Jos, as the COAS conducted an operational and familiarization tour of Army formations in the state.
According to the Nigerian Army, General Shaibu commended the Plateau State Government for its support, particularly to the Armoured Corps, describing the state as a strategic partner in national security.
He emphasized that the Army would continue to deploy personnel and resources professionally, stressing that collaborative intelligence and community engagement are key to overcoming complex security challenges.
Governor Mutfwang congratulated the COAS on his appointment and lauded the professionalism and sacrifices of Army personnel, highlighting the proactive efforts under Operation ENDURING PEACE, which contributed to peaceful festive celebrations in 2025.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting both kinetic and non-kinetic security operations and urged sustained collaboration to address lingering threats.
The COAS also paid homage to the Gbong Gwom Jos, His Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, assuring traditional authorities of the Army’s dedication to restoring full peace.
The monarch pledged to continue engaging the youth and communities to consolidate security gains.
The visit underscored the importance of civil–military collaboration among the Nigerian Army, state governments, and traditional institutions as a cornerstone for peace, stability, and national security in Plateau State and beyond.
