A Kano State High Court sitting on Miller Road has ordered the remand of a man, Umar Ibrahim, in correctional custody over allegations of armed robbery and rape involving a married woman in the Kano metropolis.
The defendant was arraigned by the Kano State Government before the court presided over by Justice Sulaiman Baba Na Malam.
During proceedings, the prosecution counsel, Barrister Amina Uba Adamu, urged the court to entertain the charges filed against the defendant.
According to the prosecution, Ibrahim allegedly invaded the residence of the complainant on Jajira Street, where he was said to have dispossessed her of money at gunpoint.
The prosecution further alleged that the defendant threatened to kill the woman before allegedly raping her inside the house.
However, after the charges were read in court, Ibrahim pleaded not guilty to all the allegations levelled against him.
Following his plea, Justice Sulaiman ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody pending the continuation of trial.
The court subsequently adjourned the matter until July 8, 2026, for commencement of hearing and presentation of witnesses by the prosecution.
