Hadiza El-Rufai, wife of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed claims by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission that wiretapping equipment was recovered during a February search of her Abuja residence, describing the allegation as misleading.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she joked that her “bank tokens” were taken instead, emphasizing that the seized items were ordinary household electronics such as old mobile phones, flash drives, and laptops.
She reiterated the family’s position that the search warrant was legally defective and that their decision not to answer questions during the operation was protected under the constitution.
ICPC had told the Federal Capital Territory High Court that electronic devices allegedly capable of intercepting conversations were seized as part of an investigation into alleged financial irregularities during El-Rufai’s tenure from 2015 to 2023.
The Commission has not commented on her latest response.
Observers note that the development underscores ongoing tensions between regulatory agencies and public officials’ families, highlighting the need for strict adherence to due process, legal safeguards, and transparency in investigations involving sensitive allegations.
