The Association of Women Town Planners in Nigeria has encouraged girls to remain focused on achieving their goals through dignity, hard work and determination.
The National Chairman of the association, Dr. Veronica Okoye, made the call in a message to commemorate the 2026 International Women’s Day.
Dr. Okoye noted that empowering women and girls is essential to national development, stressing that when women thrive, families, communities and nations also prosper.
She explained that the theme of this year’s celebration, “Give to Gain,” highlights the need for policies and practices that are women and girl-friendly and promote their participation in decision-making.
As part of activities to mark the day, members of the association visited Girls Secondary School, Abayi in Aba, Abia State, where they distributed exercise books, biros, sanitary pads, drinks and biscuits to students.
International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8, highlights issues affecting women’s advancement, including gender-based violence, discrimination and poor sanitary conditions in some schools and communities.
