The internal crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has intensified, with rival factions loyal to Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje clashing over control of the party in Kano Municipal Local Government Area.
The dispute escalated following the removal of Mutari Ishaq, a Ganduje-backed party leader, during a stakeholders’ meeting intended to promote unity among party leaders from all 13 wards.
Instead of reconciliation, the factions held separate meetings at different venues, highlighting a growing leadership rift.
The Ganduje faction convened with party officials, including Kano Municipal APC Chairman Alhaji Sani Abubakar Mai Fata Sharada, Baffa Babba Dan’agundi, and others, while Barau-aligned members met at Sultanate Suite, led by Hon. Salisu Maje Ahmed Gwangwazo and associates.
Reports also indicate that supporters of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf allied with the Ganduje faction during deliberations.
Kano Municipal, one of the state’s most populous local governments with a significant voter base, has become a critical battleground for political dominance as parties position ahead of future elections.
The factional clashes underscore deepening divisions within the APC and pose challenges to party cohesion in the state.
